Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Foxridge Community Garden (FCG)?

Currently, we are a group of Foxridge garden enthusiasts who are passionate about bringing a thriving community garden to the Foxridge neighborhood and surrounding areas.  To learn more about our group, please go to About Us.

What is FCG's goal/mission?

At Foxridge Community Garden, neighbors come together to grow food, share knowledge, cultivate skills, connect with nature, and strengthen our community.

I've read FCG is an affiliate garden under Denver Urban Gardens - What Does This Mean?

Our affiliate garden status allows DUG to be our fiscal agent and share its non-profit status, enabling FCG to apply for grants requiring a 501(c)(3).  We also benefit from receiving liability insurance through DUG.

Who is paying to build the garden?

FCG’s Steering Committee regularly reviews and applies to local and grant-based funding opportunities.  In 2021, we opened the garden up to business sponsorships, which allowed us to build 7 new raised beds.  We also received a $5,000 grant from Oroweat Organic – enough funding for 7 more raised beds.  We received a $500 award from the GroMoreGood grant, which is funding our kids’ program raised bed.  Please visit our Grant and Community Support page for more information.

What can be grown in the garden?

Individuals may plant anything they want in their plots (with the exception of cannabis), but our focus is fruits and vegetables.  There will also be perennial planting throughout the garden (e.g., berries, herbs).

How do I reserve a garden bed?

Please visit our Rent a Plot page for more information!

Can my kids come to the garden? How about pets?

Kids are welcome with parents’ supervision. Friendly pets on leashes are welcome. Be sure to bring your own poop bags 😊

What happens to the food grown in the garden?

As a renter, the food you grow is yours to take home and share with your loved ones! For 2021, one of our raised beds is being maintained by the FCG Steering Committee, who will donate its produce to an area food bank.

What kind of events will be held at the garden?

We will host educational events throughout the year. So far in 2021, we have hosted a virtual Introduction to Garden, Composting 101, and will have monthly kids’ club programming.  We will also host our 2nd Annual Summer Solstice Open House on June 19, 2021. Please visit our Events page for more information.

How is the garden affiliated with the Foxridge Swim and Racquet Club? Do I need to belong to the Club to join the garden?

The Club at Foxridge generously agreed to let us convert the unused volleyball court space into our community garden. You do not need to belong to the Club to garden or volunteer at the garden.  Head to our Contact Page if you want to remain in the Foxridge Community Garden loop!

Can people outside the Foxridge neighborhood join the garden?

Yes! FCG is open to the surrounding community.
